WHITES 40 YEAR PREMIERSHIP REUNION

On Friday night, the Queanbeyan Whites will be celebrating 40 years since the Club won 1st grade premierships from 1981- 83 and the Reserve Grade Premiership in 1982.

A total of 70 former players and their wives will be attending to celebrate a golden period in the Clubs storied history.

As was the case, a number of players played in all 3 of 1st grade premierships and some were also included in the 2nd grade premiership, so it really is a select group attending.

Along with the former players and wives, other invited guests include convenor of the ACT AND SNSW Life Members, Peter Lawler, referee from all 3 of the 1st grade premiership games, Peter McPhillips, Brumbies CEO Phil Thomson, and local politicians.  It will also be an opportunity to celebrate the contribution of people no longer with us, including 1st grade coach Col Maxwell, 1st grade manager Errol Austin, 2nd grade Coach Dennis Debenham and former players Pat Mathews, Jack Maguire, and Bruce Greentree.   Along with some formalities, a ‘Players Panel’ will be grilled about their recollections from this time which should be highly entertaining.

It’s noted that players from this era make up more than half of the Whites 100 1st grade games Club and over half of the Clubs Life Members.

Following Friday nights event, everyone will be back at Taylor Park for the action on Saturday when the Whites host the Gungahlin Eagles, who as fate would have it the Whites defeated Daramalan in 3 of the 4 deciders being celebrated this weekend.   Saturday’s gathering is open to all former players with a special after match function being hosted by major sponsor, Walsh’s Hotel, that will include the return of the famous Queanbeyan curry !!!
