Hitchcock Shield where it belongs By Phill Hawke Queanbeyan took possession of the Bob Hitchcock Territory Shield when the defeated University Owls in round 8, 58-26. The shield is held by the home team until beaten with the end of season winner the holder after the final round of the John I. Dent Cup. In 2018, the first shield game was between foundation clubs Easts and Uni-North. Easts became the holder after beating Uni 22-20, but they lost it to Queanbeyan when the Whites won 29-20. Queanbeyan has not won the end of season ownership. Whites’ stalwart Bob Hitchcock is recognised by the shield competition which is based on the New Zealand Ranfurly Shield. Hitchcock came to Queanbeyan as a schoolteacher at Queanbeyan West. He played for the Whites and then coached the club before moving into the representative field. Bob was a life member of the Queanbeyan club (2008) and the ACT Brumbies. Awarded an OAM and named ACT Coach of the Year on two occasions, Bob done it all. His representative coaching included the ACT, Australian Under 21s, Emerging Wallabies and the Australian Women’s Wallaroos and Women’s Sevens. Rarely does a photo capture the nature of the person. This one does, it shows his warm personality, a strength of character, his sense of humour ands honesty. Bob died at the age of 76 leaving behind his rugby community and family.

50 FOR SEEDS!!! 🔥⚪️🔥⚪️ This weeks game against Owls will mark Sam Eden’s 50th club game for the Whites. From debuting for 1st grade as an 18 year old to winning a colts premiership, Sam always rocks up with grit and a good attitude. Well done mate, QBN is proud of your first 50 and keen for more to come.

Sad to say that it will be Maligi’s last game for the club this weekend. Milsy has been a cornerstone of our club for years building our whites values on and off the park. His dedication and passion towards our community has been outstanding and we are going to miss him. Good luck with the new opportunity mate, you’re always welcome to put on the jersey when you’re back in town.

Another milestone this weekend! ABB will tally up his 50th for the club this Saturday at home against Vikings. Archie has been at the club since 2023 and has since won a Colts Premiership and an abundance of awards throughout second grade. He has had a killer start to the 2026 season at scrumhalf and we are all keen to see him continue his career at the mighty whites. Well done mate @archieebbrown_ ⚪️🔵🏉
